I answer Quora question ‘Why do so many liberals dislike Marjorie Taylor Greene?’

The perception and opinions regarding politicians can vary widely, but it’s safe to say nearly all liberals strongly dislike Marjorie Taylor Greene and her constant barrage of “unsourced criticisms” of liberals.

Here are a few reasons why some liberals may have a negative view of her:

  1. Controversial Statements and Conspiracy Theories: Marjorie Taylor Greene has been known for expressing and promoting controversial statements and conspiracy theories.

In fact, she even acknowledged this part of her history in her (weirdly confident) public image makeover, saying she initially embraced Qanon beliefs because of “things in the news that didn’t make sense to me…”

But her semi-apology was also barely coherent (“The problem with that is, though, is I was allowed to believe things that weren’t true, and I would ask questions about them and talk about them, and that is absolutely what I regret…Because if it weren’t for the Facebook posts and comments that I liked in 2018, I wouldn’t be standing here today and you couldn’t point a finger and accuse me of anything wrong…”

So she admits that she believed untrue things and spread disinformation/misinformation, and used threatening language against politicians and FBI agents, and yet expects no one to take issue with it.

She has spread baseless claims, including QAnon conspiracy theories, suggesting that prominent politicians are involved in pedophilia and other unfounded allegations.

Many liberals view these conspiracy theories as dangerous and lacking evidence, which undermines public discourse and fuels division.

  1. Extremist Views: Greene has espoused far-right and extremist views on various topics. In fact, one might reasonably say she represents the normalization of far-right extremism in the United States. She has faced criticism for endorsing and promoting white nationalist rhetoric, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic tropes, and supporting conspiracy theories like the idea that school shootings were staged.
Here’s an incomplete list of MTG’s anti-Semitic “greatest hits.”
Remember, anti-Semitism typically means “prejudice against, or hatred of, Jews.”
These views are seen by many liberals as divisive, discriminatory, and out of touch with the values of inclusivity, equity, and equality.
  2. Behavior and Conduct: Greene’s confrontational and inflammatory behavior has drawn criticism.

She has been involved in public controversies, such as confrontations with fellow members of Congress and expressing support for political violence.

Critics argue that her actions undermine the integrity and professionalism of public office. Also, obviously, she has proven that she is unprofessional “on the ground,” in addition to being unprofessional online.

  1. Opposition to Progressive Policies: As a staunch conservative, Greene opposes many progressive policies that are supported by liberals, while planning to actually greatly expand the power of government over people’s lives through the implementation of a theocratic corporate dictatorship that micro-manages people’s sex lives, bans books, and imposes her no doubt puritanical views of Christianity upon the population (and this coming from someone who is divorced for cheating on her husband with a tantric sex guru).

Her opposition to progressive policies includes her opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, climate change initiatives, healthcare reforms, and gun control measures. It’s also quite clear that she wouldn’t only reinstate “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in the military, but would most certainly ban gay marriage and homosexuality outright.

Her positions on these issues are seen as regressive by liberals who advocate for social justice, equality, and measures to address urgent global challenges.

It’s important to note that these points represent common criticisms from liberals, and there are likely individuals with reasons for disliking or disagreeing with Marjorie Taylor Greene that I didn’t include here.

Political opinions are often diverse and multifaceted, but not all of them lead so easily to lasting harm to the United States.
