Thucydides On Power

“Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.”
– Thucydides, Athenian historian and general.

Thucydides may as well have added “in perpetuity.” The object of power is typically to make the weak stay weak forever.
